Jewellery care tips

How to care for your Eli Speaks jewellery at home

The Home Soak & Scrub

Regularly clean items like rings and earrings in a bath of warm water and dishwashing liquid. Leave to soak for a few minutes, maybe 10 if they are funky! And then use a soft bamboo toothbrush to gently scrub in behind stones and settings as thoroughly as possible. Rinse under running water and repeat if needed. Dry well with a clean cotton cloth or non-oiled tissue. A quick dry off with a hairdryer will help get out any trapped water behind gems. Please note, this method is not suitable for organic gems like opal and pearl.

Storage tips

Store your jewellery in the original jewellery box provided or other soft-surfaced place to ensure the gems don”t scratch on abrasive surfaces or other jewellery while not being worn.

Avoid rough surfaces

Remove rings at the gym, while gardening, at hot pools, and while cleaning with chemicals. Also avoid wearing rings while swimming as this is the most common way to lose them.

How to avoid ‘cloudy gems’

Skin applications like sunscreen and moisturiser will instantly cloud the surface of gems and polished metal. If you use these on your hands, the home soak and scrub method above will be very helpful to restore the sparkle of your jewels.

The Jeweller Treatment

Bring your rings in every 1-2 years for a Jeweller supreme clean, polish and inspection. This will get them super clean, shining like new, and pick up on any damage or loose gems before they are lost. This is a good opportunity to re-do the rhodium plating if needed.

The Quick clean

A general clean in my studio ultrasonic is available for previous Eli Speaks customers. Email Kate to book a cleaning service.
